I feel that my recent designs have slightly lost the art nouveau style; not completely as the work within the designs have fluid aspects, but as a whole the work doesn't come across like that. Therefore, I have decided to create new patterns, concentrating on the feel of the composition.
Working in black and white when developing my ideas helps me clearly see how well the composition of the design works. I feel that these designs sum up my collection really well, as they include aspects of all of my development motifs; including circles, elegant art nouveau styled lines and busy, intricate detail. Content with my work, I then created brushes within photoshop and started to experiment with colour and placement.
I have used a layer effect to blend the motifs and the background design and also played around with the levels to create the striking features. It has worked really well as the motif has filled the block colours and created the textured pattern.
I think I've captured the art nouveau theme as well as the textured look within these designs. Even though I like the smaller design, I feel that the second works more effectively as it has a variety of sizes. The larger motifs are more detailed as you can see more of the design within it, it also stands out against the smaller pattern. I think it would work really well on a garment as the difference in sizes will create an interesting layered effect.
